It has been in a combat zone and some of the hottest weather on earth. It still works as good as it did the first day and sounds great. I thought the sound would be mediocre when I bought it but this thing packs a punch. I love the dimming light feature on the front, it is very nice when you have a dark room. You can have it bright blue, dim blue, or off. You can wake up to your favorite song via the iPod or just have a pleasant buzzer wake you up. It's not pleasant in actuality, its an annoying beep, but it wakes you up with a gradual volume shift. If you are a light sleeper it wont be as annoying. I recommend buying the $11 remote. It is very convient if you are using it to jam in the kitchen or even in the living room. I haven't had one problem with this like I said in a year and give it 5 stars. There are no complaints other than my black color attracts lots of dust. Weekly wiping keeps this from being a problem. The sound is surprisingly good considering that this is a 15 watt unit, and its rich resonant sound will fill a bedroom or a small office. The iHome will charge your iPod while it is playing (or even when it is not playing), and the alarm buttons and the forward/reverse buttons are backlit in the dark. I also appreciate the brightly lit digital clock on the radio. It is pristine and clear and easy to tell the time. You can even dim the time if it seems too bright. The iHome also comes with small FM and AM antennas, a 15 volt DC plug, and multiple slots so that it you can fit any iPod onto it. The unit also comes with a small line in plug so you can hook up other non-Apple mp3 players and play them through the iHome. My one note of criticism is that it doesn't come with a remote. You will have to pay an additional $19.99, and even then, it will only control the volume and where you are in a song. It will not be able to switch albums or files. Also, the unit comes with two AA batteries so that the time will not go out when you have to unplug the iHome to switch outlets. This unit sounds better than almost any other clock radio I have ever heard. The only one I have heard in this price range with a fuller sound is the iPod clock stereo radio made by TEAC, which you can get at Costco. But it is bigger and heavier, and not as portable nor as pretty as the iHome. Moreover, the clock is harder to read on the TEAC. It's a gorgeous little design and big enough to produce high-quality sound, but small enough not to bother or stand out. We have ours on top of the TV in the open plan living/dining room and can hear it all through the house if we want to turn it up that loud, or have had it playing softly in the background during a dinner party. I love it because we didn't have to get an expensive speaker system with sightly cables or worry about compatibility. You will be impressed with the superior sound quality compared to anything else in this price range. Not to mention the charging feature, which is excellent, because the only time I ever have to worry about charging my iPod is in a hotel room on business travel. Sound quality is relatively thin compared to the Bose sound dock, but its by no means weak. I'm sitting a good 15ft from my system as I'm writing this and it sounds great with plenty of power. Radio clarity is excellent and comparable to most nightstand radios in the $50-100 price range.
